Donald L. “Papa” Williams, 88, of 2935 Wildwood Court NE, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 ?" 8 p.m. today (Monday, June 11, 2007.) Burial: Coggon Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Ann Baker (Kenneth Young); granddaughters, Desireé Kupfer (Johnny Pickens) and Harmony Neff (David); great-grandchildren, Harlee Pickens, Dylan Pickens and Jonathan Pickens; and a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Helen Manley.
Donald was born October 24, 1918, in Coggon, Iowa, the son of Harley and Mayme (Patton) Williams. On April 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kepler. Donald grew up on a farm near Coggon. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Italy and France. He was employed as a linotype printer at the Marion Sentinel, Daily News in Worland, Wyoming, and Lilly Printing in Cedar Rapids.
Military honors will be provided by Marion American Legion Post 298.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Camp Courageous, Juvenile Diabetes, the Humane Shelter or a charity of your choice.
