Donald A. Miller, 77, of 920 Blairs Ferry Rd., died Monday, August 30, 2004, at his home, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Bill Harnish with Masonoic Services. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; his children, Linda L. Dalhka of Yamhill, Oregon, Rick L. Miller and friend Ann Tucker of Cedar Rapids, Rhonda L. Lodermeier and husband Larry P. of Owatonna, Minnesota and Roxann L. Miller-Carnicle and Roger of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Evelyn (Dean) Lyon of Cedar Rapids, Leila Brennaman of Shellsburg and LaVonne Spicer of Armo, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LaVerne and Robert; a sister, Doris Lintz; and a grandson, Austin Eugene Miller.
Don was born July 28, 1927, the son of Eugene Andrew and Veva Pearl (Hammond) Miller in Benton County. He graduated from Toddville High School and then served with the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 and the Army Reserves until 1957. On June 29, 1955, he married Evelyn Kohl in Rock Island, Illinois. Don was a tool and dye maker for Quickway, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, Marion Lodge #6 AF & AM, Cedar Rapids Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, Machinist Union and Musician Union.
Don was a musician with several bands. He had his own Don Miller Combo & Don Miller Band. He played with many local musicians including Kenny Hoffer, Pug Stuefen, Dick Miller and the Shieks (Shrine).
