Donald B. Mahin, Sr., 81, a resident of Crestview Acres, Marion, Iowa, died there Saturday, March 29, 2008, following a long illness. Memorial Services: 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2008, at First Christian Church, Estherville, Iowa, by the Rev. Doug Burton and also 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Robert Kunz. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita; children, Dennis and Margie Mahin of Jacksonville, Florida, Sharon and Keith Mouat of Houston, Texas, Don Mahin, Jr. of Ruthven, Iowa and Sheila and Scott Semler of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Amie, Amber, Brandon, Bryan, Matthew and Darren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Darwin and Donna Mahin of Estherville, Bill and Maxine Mahin of Escondito, California and Kenneth and Carol Mahin of Pipestone, Minnesota; and sisters, Ardis and Ed Koskovich, of Pipestone, Minnesota, Bernita and Don Yockey of Sioux City, Karel and Vere Harvey of Estherville, and Vera Yockey of Lake Benton, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Albert Mahin.
Donald was born December 12, 1926, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Viola (Schumacher) Mahin. He served in the U.S. Army. On December 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Juanita Billings in Estherville, Iowa. He farmed for 30 years and spent 18 years in the excavating business in Emmet County.
Donald was a former member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Estherville, Iowa and currently a member of Marion Christian Church. He also belonged to the Elk’s Club in Estherville.
Memorials may be made in Donald’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of Mercy or Marion Christian Church.
