Donald Leroy Jensen, 87, of Anamosa, formerly of Marion, passed peacefully into Heaven early Friday morning, March 15, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Anamosa, by Pastor Ron Thatcher. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
He is survived by his sons, Roger (Sue), Melvin (Mary), Steve (Diane), Terry (Liza), and Tony; daughter-in-law, Kathi; step-children, Vianna (Dave), Butch (Anita), Kathy (Phil), Carol, Laurian (Dellar), and Colleen (Dennis). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; his second wife, Jeanne; his son, Rodney; his step-son, Gary; his parents; and six brothers and sisters.
Donald was born December 10, 1925, in Rodman, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Petersen) Jensen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII. Don married Dorothy Wilcox in 1948, and together they moved with their six boys to Marion in 1961. Following Dorothy’s passing in 1981, Don married Jeanne Gilbert in 1982. Jeanne died in 2009. He was a lifetime carpenter and retired from Cargill in 1987, after 25 years.
Don loved to cut trees and split wood, and we know he still is! His entire life was dedicated to his loving family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Don’s memory.
