Donald “Don” J. Hoeger, 78, of Delhi, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, with a Scripture Service to follow at 7:00 p.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Delhi, with burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville, Iowa, is assisting the family. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Don was born on August 6, 1942, the son of Linus and Delores (Eike) Hoeger. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley Country School in 1960. Immediately after high school, he enlisted into the United States Army Reserves until 1968.

On August 20, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Carlyn Trumm at Worthington Catholic Church. The couple owned and operated a dairy/hog farm near Delhi. Farming was Don’s true passion his entire life. He started working for his uncle Ralph at the age of 12.
Don was a hard worker, starting each day at 4:00 a.m. He was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Outside of farming, Don enjoyed spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. He also enjoyed fishing, stock car and Nascar racing, driving his truck, and visiting while getting coffee at the local gas station in Delhi. Don was also a fan of the University of Iowa Women’s Basketball program, where he followed and attended many games. Don was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Delhi.

Don is survived by his children, Linda (Joe) Goldsmith of Earlville, Gary (Patti) Hoeger of Earlville, Al Hoeger of Delhi, Sandy (Mike) Mensen of Delhi, and Mike Hoeger of Manchester, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Carrie (Ryan) Larson, Eric Goldsmith, Nikki (Courtney) Goodchild, Holly Hoeger (Jeff Chesnut), Heidi Hoeger (Jeremy Putz), Chris Hoeger, Shawnae Hoeger (Jeremy Fischer), Macy Hoeger (Camden Leonard), Olivia Hoeger, Jordan Mensen (Brie Nielson), Megan Mensen (Rob Bockenstedt), Brianna Mensen, and Michael Hoeger II; nine great-grandchildren, Brynn, Anika, and Trace Larson, Cal Goodchild, Kaela, Kylie and Lucas Chesnut, and Lakelyn and Kaiser Mensen; siblings, brother Jim Hoeger and sister, JoAnn Fitzpatrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Linus and Delores (Eike) Hoeger; wife, Carlyn Hoeger; in-laws, Carl and Helen (Gudenkauf) Trumm; granddaughter, Karli Hoeger; nieces, Diane Clausen and Shelly Osten; brothers-in-law, Richard Fitzpatrick and Vernon Trumm; sister-in-law, Carol Tibbetts.
