Donald E. Geiger, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Sally (Mike) Mulder of Omaha, Nebraska, Marilyn (Mark) Sutton of Cedar Rapids, Leland (Regina) Geiger of Junction City, Kansas, and Susan Geiger of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Trisha, Caron, Paul, Crystal, Jennifer, Adam, Steven, Dawn, Tiffany, Ricky and Jacob; five great-grandchildren, Karmyn, Mackenzie, Keygyn, Madilyn and Ava; and a brother, Lester (Donna) Geiger of Brandon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Merle; two grandchildren, Corey and Tonya; and two brothers, Raymond and Charles.
Donald was born November 14, 1929, the son of Leland and Lucille (Babcock) Geiger, in Benton County, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean War. On January 21, 1959, Donald was united in marriage to Merle May “Tootie” Fritz. For 22 years, he worked for Kirkwood Community College and he also farmed. Donald spent many years on the corner of Edgewood and Johnson selling corn. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed going everyday to Guppy’s having coffee with his friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Donald.
