Donald L. Foley, 75, of 1185 Mitchell Drive, died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at his home, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Rev. John Gossman with Military honors provided by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a KC Rosary will begin at 6:30 with a vigil service following. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Donna (Mark) Godar of Grinnell and their children, Ben (Naura), Jenny, Katie and Becky, Anne (Jim) McCormick of Cedar Rapids and their children, Dan, Drew and James, Barney (Kathy) Foley of Marion and their children Connor and Erin, Joseph Foley of Marion and daughter Rachael.

Also surviving are four sisters, Rita Engelman, Peggy VanCamp, Sheila Johnson and Mary Katherine Foley; two brothers, Barry and Larry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; his parents, Lawrence Joseph and Ailleen (Barry) Foley; a grandson, Jeremy; a granddaughter, Bridget Anne; and a sister, Betty Davies.

Donald was born January 28, 1929, the son of Lawrence Joseph and Ailleen (Barry) Foley. On October 1, 1955, he married Bernice A. Walsh. She died April 21, 1994. Donald served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the 187 Airborne where he earned a bronze star. He worked at the Cedar Rapids Gazette as a printer and later worked as a salesman at Standard Appliance, Smulekoff?s and Montgomery Ward. Donald helped start the Boxing Club at the Knights of Columbus in Cedar Rapids and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 909.

Donald loved being around his grandchildren and spending time with them.
