Donald “Don” C. Whorton, 95, of Marion, passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018, at Keystone Nursing Care Center, Keystone, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to Noon on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will begin at Noon at the funeral home on Friday conducted by Reverend Gary Novak. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2018, at Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque.
Don was born on October 25, 1922, in Farmersville, Missouri, the son of Cleo and Grace (Pugh) Whorton. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was united in marriage to Betty Heine on February 7, 1944 in Dubuque. Don owned and operated a trucking company and later was employed by Plumb Supply, retiring 1985. He was a member of the Blair Ridge Baptist Church, American Legion Post #298 of Marion, and Teamster Union #238. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Marion; son, Jerry Whorton, of Norway, Iowa; four grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and one sister, Virginia Schrock of Orinda, California.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, John; brother, Cleo: and sisters, Vivian and Nettie.
