Donald Wayne “Don” Thompson, 80, of Springville, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at his home, following a long illness. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Maranatha Bible Church, 701 25th St. NE, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Aaron Telecky. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy; 5 children, Tracy Thompson of Houston, Texas, Colleen (Bob) Daniel of Marion, Trent (Brianne) Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Troy (Stephanie Wellington) Thompson of Marion, and Christopher Thompson of Marion; 5 grandchildren, Kristin & Justin Daniel, Tiffany & Gideon Thompson, and Rylee Thompson; a sister, Ruth (Graham) Reynoldson of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and special friends to the family, Annette Schlicht, Lyndee Lien, and Linda Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was born November 10, 1928, the son of Joy Wayne and Valetta Betty (Blake) Thompson, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He married Lucinda “Cindy” Sills on June 23, 1979 on the family farm in Springville. Don served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Maranatha Bible Church, the Springville School Board, the Republican Central Committee and the Boy Scouts of America.
