Donald L. “Don” Pearson, Jr., 68, of Marion, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Memorial Gathering: 1 – 3 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, Marion. Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the church conducted by Pastor Mike Morgan. A private committal service will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Don is survived by his wife, Irma Pearson of Marion; mother, Lottie Pierce of Onawa; daughter, Jessica (Dan) Barr of Cedar Rapids; son, Brent (Sara) Pearson of Davenport; two granddaughters, Lily and Molly Barr; brother, Keith (Beti) Pearson of Hermitage, Missouri; sisters, Charlotte Bell of Onawa and Joanne (Joe) Fleck of Rodney; and mother-in-law, Opal Anderson of Freeport, Illinois. He is also survived by extended family members, Arlene Anderson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Harold (Alison) Anderson of Freeport, Illinois, Lula Koester of Missoula, Montana, and Eric (Keryn) Anderson of Bow, New Hampshire and several nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Reverend Bill Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Mike Bell and Dan Koester; one nephew, Aaron Bainbridge; one niece, Natasha Anderson; and a special friend, Mike Whitcher.

Don was born on November 15, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Don married the love of his life, Irma Jean Anderson, on January 27, 1973, in Dakota City, Nebraska. He rejoiced when both of his children found the loves of their lives and enjoyed the extended families they brought to him. Don felt blessed to be able to spend time with his granddaughters. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and traveling. Don marveled at nature in all its glory. He traveled with family to Australia, Europe, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park and over 45 states. On his many travels, Don never met a stranger. His contagious easy smile befriended everyone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Marion, in Don’s memory. The family requests everyone do a good deed for others, or hug someone close to you, in memory of Don.
