Donald R. McNamara , 61, of Ryan died at home July 19, 2012.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan by Rev. Richard Gaul. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ryan, where there will be a 2:00 p.m. Scripture Service. Additional visitation at the church, one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Monti with Military Honors provided by the Marine Honor Guard, the Ryan American Legion and the Delaware County Firefighter Honor Guard. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremations Services, Manchester are in charge of the arrangements.
Don was born February 28, 1951 in Manchester, the son of Bernard and Mary (Cooney) McNamara. Raised in Monti, he attended East Buchanan High School graduating from Boys’ Town in 1969. Don served with the United States Marine Corps from February 1970 until February 1972. He was united in marriage to Peg Melchert on October 18, 1975. Three daughters were born to this union.
Don worked for Delaware County for 11 years as a road maintainer; and 17 years for the Ryan Coop. Don was a member of the Ryan American Legion Post 692 and served on the Ryan Fire Department. Don enjoyed golf, playing cards, and coaching his girls’ softball teams.
Don is survived by his wife of 36 years, Peg McNamara of Ryan; three children, Carrie (Shannon Sauerbry) McNamara of Manchester, Cristy (Christian Skubal) McNamara of Cedar Rapids and CeAnn McNamara of Austin, TX; two grandsons, Gavin and Hudson Sauerbry; three siblings, Bernard “Jim” (Shirley) McNamara of Cedar Rapids, Mary Rita (Kenneth “Red”) Greiner of Toddville, and Joe (Lois) McNamara of Ryan; his in-laws, Vernon and Therese Melchert of Hopkinton; brothers and sisters in-laws, Diana Melchert, Paula & Leo Woods, Lynne & George Cantu, Gayle & Kevin Funke, Jim & Pam Melchert, Marla & Bill Wright, Joyce & Dave George, Kevin & Miquel Melchert, Corey & Tammy Melchert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Mary McNamara, a brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Jones, and a nephew, Kyle Woods.
A memorial fund has been established in Don’s memory.
