Donald "Don" Harold Happel

Donald “Don” Harold Happel, 91, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Private burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Don was born on April 11, 1933, the son of Harold and Lois (Ward) Happel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He honorably served in the United States Air Force. On May 27, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Janice Elaine McAtee in Alburnett, Iowa. He was a truck driver for A W Schmidt Transfer, then became a tour bus driver for Charter Coach. Afterward, he worked with his wife for many years at Greiner Well. Don was a member of Alburnett Methodist Church and a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed his coin collections, making bread & butter pickles with his family, reading the Gazette daily, and traveling, especially to their cabin in Delhi.
Don is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Janice Happel; two children, Jeff (Janet) Happel, and Julie (Dan) Anderson-Kigin; four grandchildren, Amanda Happel, Lisa (Ira) Moffett, Christopher (Vanessa) Anderson, and Nicholas Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Mackenze Anderson, Ricky Anderson, Jett Anderson, Wyatt Harkness, and Everleigh Moffett; sister, Susan (Roger) Ronsen; and brother, Steven (Syd) Happel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Richard and Robert Happel.
