Donald Andrew "Don" Froehle

Donald A. Froehle, 83, of 2135 1st Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, August 30, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St. Pius X Church in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Rebecca (Larry) Soukup of Agra, Oklahoma, and Michael (Ronda) Froehle of Cedar Falls; 4 grandchildren, John (Molly) Soukup of Agra, Oklahoma, James Soukup of Agra, Oklahoma, Timothy Froehle of Iowa City, and Angela (Adam) Bates of University Park; 4 great-grandchildren, Asher, John, Ryder, and Livia; and 2 brothers, Gerald (Eleanor) Froehle of Ankeny, and Robert (Jan) Froehle of Iowa City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Retha; his siblings, Maurice Froehle, Helen Elsbecker, Dennis Froehle, Richard Froehle and Gordon Froehle who died in infancy.
Donald was born August 28, 1926, the son of Frank and Alvina (Fangman) Froehle, in Bancroft, Iowa. He graduated from St. John’s High School of Bancroft in 1944, Upper Iowa University in 1951, and received his masters degree from Mankato State. Don married Retha I. Brown on August 14, 1951, in Waseca, Minnesota. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Don then worked as a Sales Representative for Life Investors, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the V.F.W.
