Donald Lee Bradley
September 16, 1928 — January 10, 2003
Donald Bradley, 74, of Manchester, Iowa, died Friday, January 10, 2003, at his home after a short illness. Services will be held 10:30 am Monday, January 13, 2003 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester; the Rev. Kurt Pasko will officiate. Family will greet friends from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, January 12 and one hour before the service, on Monday, at the funeral home. Following the service his remains will be donated to the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. Burial in the Campton Cemetery, Lamont, Iowa will be held at a later date.
Donald L. Bradley was born on September 16, 1928, in Eden, Iowa, the son of Ernest Jem and Jessie (Kent) Bradley. He attended school at the Little Red School in Oneida, Iowa. While growing up he worked various jobs in Manchester, as well as helping on the family farm. Donald entered the United States Army, serving at Camp Carson, Colorado. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army in August 1951. On September 14, 1952, Donald was united in marriage to Sylvia Linderwell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed in Greeley, Maynard, Dundee and Lamont before purchasing their own farm northeast of Manchester in 1968. Donald also worked for Wilson & Company in Cedar Rapids. He retired from work in 1988, but still enjoyed helping his sons on the family farm.
Donald especially loved farming, and working with machinery. He and Sylvia enjoyed playing cards, dancing and walking through the flower gardens on their farm.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sylvia Bradley of Manchester; two sons, Steve Bradley and his wife JoAnn, of Manchester and David Bradley of Iowa City; twelve grandchildren, Andrea Schmidt, Denise, Sarah, Bryon and Samantha, Tania, Tiffany, Trent, Brianne, Blake, Drew and Skye Bradley; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Grant Schmidt and Vance Deutmeyer; his twin sister, Dorothy Rissler and husband Duane; two brothers and their wives, Ernest Jr. and Beverly Bradley, and Richard and Carol Bradley, all of Manchester.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Jessie Bradley.
