Dolores A. Binley Underwood Tjaden, 82, a resident at the Anamosa Care Center, formerly of Springville, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the care center. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014, at the Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Springville Cemetery, Springville.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Julia) Underwood of Mechanicsville; daughter, Katherine F. (Jack) Wisehart of Lafayette, Indiana; grandchildren Stefanie A. (David) Glassberg, and Jacob P. (Aimee) Underwood; great-grandchildren Michelle Raue, Sebastian Glassberg, Myles Glassberg, Maddex Underwood, McCoy Underwood, and Isabelle Hingtgen; a special friend, David Cummings, of Fairview; a brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Phil Underwood and Lynn Tjaden; one brother, Wilmer, Jr.; one sister, Wanda Binley; and one great-grandchild, Brock Glassberg.
Dolores was born April 22, 1932, to Wilmer, Sr., and Cora (Myers) Binley, in Marion, at her “Aunt Stella’s house”. She graduated from Springville High School and Hamilton Business College. On January 26, 1952, she married Phil L. Underwood at the minister’s house in Springville. He passed away in 1978. She remarried Lynn Tjaden in September 1980, he passed away in 1988. Following Lynn’s passing, she shared many years with her dear friend, David Cummings. Dolores was a secretary for 31 years at the Iowa Department for the Blind.
She was an avid fisherman. Dolores enjoyed music, dancing and flea markets. She was a huge John Wayne fan.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
