Dolores M. Gainor, 71, a resident of Crestview Acres, Marion, Iowa, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mike Andrews. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum.
Survivors include her children, Debbie Gates of Marion, Donna (Dennis) Dalecky of Cedar Rapids, Peggy (Jerry) James of Brandon and Penny (Brian) Cook of Atkins; grandchildren, Jeremy (Amanda) Gates, Matthew (Courtney) Gates, Kristina Gates, Abigail (Roy) DeWitt, Jerry Lee (Dora) James II, Meghan (Travis) Brinker, Justin (Laura) Cook, Brandon Cook and fiancé Lacy Montegue, Cody Cook and Tannor Cook; great grandchildren, Trinity Gates, Kylie Gates, Gabrielle Gates, Eden Gates, Drew DeWitt, Alex DeWitt, Gavin DeWitt, Jacob James, Leeanne Brinker, Skylar Brinker and Keyan Cook. Also surviving are her sister, Sylvia Nemecek of Rochester, New York; brothers, Vernon (Carolyn) Cook of Marion and Robert “Bob” (Jan) Cook of Springdale, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ernie Courtney.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerald Cook; brother-in-law, Dean Nemecek; and sister-in-law, Betty Cook.
Born September 28, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, Dolores was the daughter of Harry and Helen (VanAntwerp) Cook. She was a clerk for the Special Driver Agency of Manchester at the D.O.T. in Marion.
A former member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary in Marion, Dolores was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan and enjoyed being in the sun outdoors. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren play baseball.
