Dolores Avon Franks, 83, a resident of Silver Pines Assisted Living & Retirement Community, and recently of Winslow House Care Center, died, Friday, November 2, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her children, Lauri Werstein-Eid and husband Dr. Ahmad Eid of Cedar Rapids, Lonnie Franks and wife Joan of Dayton, Ohio and foster son, Rick Reitzel and wife Kathy of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Judith Atlagh and husband Ali, Michael Franks and wife Jennifer, Jonathan Werstein and Matthew Reitzel; four great-grandchildren, Umar, Mariam and Ruqayyah Atlagh and Benjamin Franks; a sister, Elaine Smith of Central City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Alice Lyons; her husband, John; and two sisters, Juanita Ford and Virginia Polton.

Dolores was born September 19, 1924, the daughter of Wallace and Alice (Higgenbottom) Lyons in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On January 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to John H. Franks, Jr. He died in 1975. For 19 years, Dolores was an income tax consultant for Benischek Realty in Cedar Rapids. She was an avid bingo player. Dolores also loved music and could play violin and piano by ear, but most of all she was a MOM.
