Dolores Loretta (Schmidt) Becker, 87, of 810 20th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at St. Jude?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids by Father Don Czapla. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to service. Burial: St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Mary Lou (Gregory) Lehner of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca (Nick) Demuth of Waverly, Robert (Connie) Becker of Cedar Rapids, Edna (Mike) Kadlec of Cedar Rapids, Russell (Tammy) Becker of Toddville, Ruth Becker of Garmisch, Germany, Brenda Becker of Cedar Rapids and Roger (Eva) Becker of Navarre, Florida; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Michael of Independence, Anna Mae Ward of Blairstown and Alice McElligott of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; a son, Paul Becker; her parents; four brothers, Bill Schmidt, Jr., Clarence Schmidt, Bob Schmidt and Allen Schmidt; and one sister, Lois Stramer.
Dolores was born June 3, 1917, in Watkins, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Delaney) Schmidt. On August 21, 1946, she married Joseph J. Becker at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Watkins. He died on March 11, 1978. Dolores attended Iowa State Teacher?s College (UNI), was a country school teacher in Benton and Linn counties, worked at Collins Radio and Cedar Café. She was a charter member of St. John?s Catholic Church in Blairstown, St. Jude?s Catholic Church, and member of the National Catholic Society of Forresters out of Norway for over 60 years. Dolores enjoyed sewing for HACAP, quilting, baking, gardening, playing cards, word puzzles and playing the piano by ear.
A memorial fund has been established to the family in memory of Dolores.
