Dewayne Nelson Smith

Dewayne N. Smith, 85, of Manchester, died Friday evening, October 29, 2004 at his home following a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at the Manchester Gospel Hall. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the Hall. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Dewayne was born on April 22, 1919, the son of Archibald N. & Myrtle R. (Grapes) Smith on a farm south of Manchester. Dewayne was saved on March 21, 1932 at the age of twelve. On January 21, 1942 Dewayne was united in marriage to Berniece C. Groothuis at her parent?s home in Kesley, Iowa. The couple farmed for five years before moving to Manchester in 1947. Dewayne worked for several area companies.
Dewayne was a member of the Manchester Gospel Hall. He liked to fish and was a handyman who enjoyed fixing things for others.
Dewayne is survived by his wife, Berniece Smith of Manchester; a daughter, Carla M. Jasperson of Barrie, ON Canada; a daughter-in-law, Dana (Adrian) Brudos of Waunakee, WI; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Scott) Downs, Deborah (Dave) MaGee & Mary (Jerry) Olson; and two great-grandchildren, Marissa & Nicholas Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archibald & Myrtle Smith; a son, Lowell N. Smith in 1997; and an infant brother, Beauford Smith.
