Derrell Dean Butterfield, 69, of Troy Mills, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Alice United Methodist Church in rural Center Point by Rev. Leo Andersen. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his mother, Marguerite Butterfield of Marion; his children, Danielle (Kent) Chesmore of Troy Mills, Denise (J.J.) Mesch of Coggon, Robin (Jim) Crawford of Anamosa, Rhonda Bowers of New York, Rhett (Hildelisa) Schulte of Coggon, Timothy Butterfield of Waubeek, Rex Schulte, and Todd Butterfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially Dalton, Brendan, Cameron, McKenna, Carlie, Cassie, Eric and Theresa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; his wife, Margaret; three sons, Rhafe, Terry and Tracy; a brother, Larry; and a daughter, Julie.
Derrell was born September 19, 1938, the son of Lloyd and Marguerite (Fuessley) Butterfield in Walker. On June 27, 1975, he married Margaret M. Biederman in Rockford, Illinois. She died April 28, 1996. Derrell worked at MidContinent Bottlers until he retired. He was a member of Alice United Methodist Church.
Derrell loved fishing, camping, gardening, watching birds and spoiling his grandchildren. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and truly appreciated and loved all who were in his life. To know him, was to love him, for he was truly one in a million.
A memorial fund has been established in Derrell’s memory.
