Derald C. Hensch, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, Sunday, July 31, 2011, at home, following a short illness. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Moose Lodge at 1820 West Post Road SW, Cedar Rapids, where military honors will begin at 4 p.m. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carol; two daughters, Sheri and Cindi (Jim) of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Elvan (Carol), of California and Eldon (Dorothy), of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Heather (Brian), Angie (Casey) and Bryan (April), of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Ella, Addie, Deeja and Morgan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters.
Derald was born July 2, 1930, the son of John and Mildred (Mefford) Hensch, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Carol Waite in Cedar Rapids. Derald drove truck for Nash Finch for 42 years. Upon his retirement, he drove part-time for P.S.I. An avid bowler, Derald enjoyed softball and together with his wife ran concession stands at Ellis Park and the University of Iowa football and basketball games. They also enjoyed camping with their family and friends.
