Dennis L. Valandingham, 53, of 1624 21st Street NW, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.

Dennis was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and son. He is survived by his wife, Emily; two sons, David Valandingham and wife Saysha of Marion; and Daniel Valandingham and fiancé Amanda Bowers of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Catherine Valandingham of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Aaliyah; a brother, Jim Hanson and wife Corinne of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Jean Rieger and Janis Kreitinger, both of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle, Gene and Farrell Dyson, who helped raise him and were a large influence on his life.

Dennis was born July 5, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with United States Army during the Vietnam War, as an air traffic controller. Dennis then served in the Iowa Army National Guard. On May 19, 1973, he was united in marriage to Emily M. Moore at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dennis worked at Quaker Oats for 20 years in production and was a member of the United Cereal Workers Local 110. Dennis was an avid martial arts enthusiast. He holds a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and a brown belt in Hapkido. Dennis loved to travel and work around home. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
