Dennis W. Travis

Dennis W. Travis, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Dennis was born March 18, 1950, in Des Moines, the son of Wendall and Marilyn (Thoren) Travis. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968 and attended Kirkwood Community College studying Electrical Engineering. On September 11, 1971, Dennis married Denise Achey in Tipton, Iowa. Dennis was a manager with US West before retiring after 28 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Cedar Rapids. When he wasn’t watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Dennis was also an avid Cyclones fan.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Denise; daughters, Necole (Jason) Meyer and Noelle (Joe) Boardman, both of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jakob, Alex, Emma, Bryce, Ava, and Carter; sister, Cheryle (Bob) Opfer of Cedar Rapids; and uncle, Gilbert (Norma) Thoren.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
