Dennis "Denny" Ray Shelton

Dennis “Denny” Ray Shelton, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, in the care of his daughter at her home. Family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Denny is survived by wife, Beverly; children, Patrick (Tracey) Shelton of Florida and Jessica (Greg Heims) Shelton of Ely; grandchildren, Derek Drexler and Brenden Heims; sister, Bonnie Shelton of Florida; and brothers, John Shelton of California, and Patrick (Patty) Shannon of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Denny was born on July 3, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa to Patrick and Leona (Brown) Shannon. He served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968 on the USS Charles R. Ware. On November 21, 1970 he married Beverly McCalley in Cedar Rapids. Denny was employed by Quaker Oats for 10 years and then did various carpentry and general labor work. He was a life time member of the VFW and a member of the Canton, Missouri 1800 Eagles club. Denny enjoyed being “Elmo T.” clown through the Cedar Rapids Eagles Club. He loved to fish and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
A memorial fund has been established in Denny’s memory.
