Dennis Nolan Akers, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, March 13, 2012, at his home. Services: 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Chaplain Joe Kane. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Cedar Rapids; four children, Amy Rice of Anamosa, James (Denise) Akers, Christina Akers (Paul Myers) and Danny (April) Akers, all of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren, Jessica, Paula, Katelyn, DJ, JJ, Andrew, Nolan, Natalie, Trevor, Arek, Jayden, Likanchuk, Zack, Sammy and Zainab al-munasit; a brother, Marvin (Jene) Akers of Marion,; a sister, Kathryn Blanchett (Fred Clinton) of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Edward; and a niece Kathy Lynn.
Dennis was born February 18, 1948, the son of Henry and Paulene (McKinney) Akers in Highcoal, West Virginia. On September 15, 1973, he married Kathy Wirth. He was the founder of EconoTow. Our Hillbilly hero, “Daddy Mack”, he will be greatly loved and missed.
