Delores (Hulbert) Henderson, 82, died of natural causes at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids on Thursday, May 3, 2007. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion from 1-5 pm. Services will be held on Monday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Marion. Burial: 2:00 p.m. at Mills Cemetery, rural Central City.
Delores was born near Hawkeye, Iowa on August 16, 1924, to Myron A. and Wilma (Morris) Hulbert. She graduated from West Union High School, and received her teaching license from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Delores began her teaching career in rural one-room schools, and taught at Lisbon Elementary, Immaculate Conception, and All-Saints schools in Cedar Rapids. She continued her college education at Coe and Mt. Mercy Colleges.
Delores married Clifford Jr. Henderson on May 24, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They raised their children Janet (Larry) Lacy, Darrell, and Carolyn (Walt) Stephenson on an acreage near Bertram before retiring to Cedar Rapids in 2001. In addition to her husband and children, Delores is survived by a brother Donald (Lavonne) Hulbert of Cedar Rapids, and grandchildren Terri (Henderson) Connelly and Kevin Henderson of the Quad Cities, Joshua Lacy, U.S. Army in Iraq, and Sara Stephenson of Iowa City, Matthew Stephenson and his wife Meghan of Ames, and Ian Stephenson of Cedar Falls, one great-grandson, Christopher Martin, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a 60 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, and a member of the Social Order of Beauceant, Broken Bit Saddle Club, Mid-Iowa Driving Club, Eastern Iowa Quilters, and the Red Hat Club. She served on the Linn County Extension Council, and was a volunteer 4-H leader and Mother Advisor to the Mt.Vernon Rainbow Girls.
Her interests were her family, friends, traveling, sewing, quilting, reading, and playing cards. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all. Memorials may be directed to the church or the St. Luke's Health Care Foundation.
