Delmer H. Hocken, 81, of 233 4th Street North, Central City, formerly of Troy Mills, died Friday, September 27, 2002, at Northbrook Care Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2002, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Bill Harnish. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Carlene Howe and husband David of Central City; his brother, Max Hocken of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Jesse and Matthew Howe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merlin and Harlan; a twin sister, Della Zobeck; and three children who died in infancy.
Delmer was born August 19, 1921, the son of Carl and Mae (Hearn) Hocken in Masonville. On January 25, 1952, he married Mary Ann Machacek in Nashua. Delmer served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II. He was a farmer, retiring in 1985. Delmer was a member of Floyd Williamson American Legion Post No. 712 and Amvet Post No. 37 of Central City.
