Delmar Fred Schnipkoweit, 63, of Hiawatha, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids presided by Father Donald Klein. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Barbara; two daughters, Theresa Catchpool (Bruce) of Cedar Falls and Darcie Barman (Erik) of Monroe, New York; five sons, Dennis (Melody) of Anamosa, Donald of Virginia, Darold of San Diego, California, Rob Moore (Sue) of Strawberry Point and John of Kansas City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Victoria, Ryan, Justin, Shelby, Katie, Stormy, Heather, Rachel, Ben, Scott, and Tina.
Also surviving are three sisters, Darlene Coppess (Dale) of Stanwood, Marvel Harmel (Elmer) of Tipton and Delores Dickman of Lost Nation; a brother, Fred (Joyce) of Lost Nation; an aunt, Berniece of Clarence; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; sisters and brother-in-laws, Marilyn and Wayne Biggs, Marnell and Jack Dye, and Fred Dickman.
Delmar was born November 18, 1939 in Red Oak, Iowa to Fred and Minnie (Ricklef) Schnipkoweit. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 29 years of service in 1995. For many years, Delmar enjoyed his summers at Sugar Bottom Campground, Coralville Lake, with countless friends and family. Many thanks for those who helped Delmar feel comfortable at Sugar Bottom during his last struggle.
