Della J. (Hearn) Stancel, 74, of Iowa Veteran's Home, Marshalltown, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Iowa Veteran's Home, following a long illness with complications of diabetes. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Anderson Cemetery, Swisher.
Survivors include her husband, George; two sons, Dennis (Debra) Stancel of Atkins and Kenneth (Katherine) Stancel of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Laura (Thad) Smoyer, Ellen Stancel, Matthew Stancel, Ryan Stancel, Timothy Stancel and Linsey Williams; three great-grandchildren, Maxwell Stancel, Ella Castine and Braedon Smoyer; a brother, Kenneth (Sue) Hearn of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters, Burnita (Melvin) Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Bill) Bennett of Hiawatha and Donna Smith, of Sun City, Arizona.
Della was born July 12, 1932, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Neidy) Hearn, in Winthrop, Iowa. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to George Stancel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Della was a homemaker and will be greatly missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Sue; a sister, Shirley; and a brother, Bernard.
