Dean E. Wenger, 81, of Masonville, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2005 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church in rural Masonville by Pastor Sheri Andersen. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation in Manchester and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Masonville with military rites.

Dean was born the son of Harry E. and Ethel A. (Robinson) Wenger on September 18, 1923 in Delaware County, Iowa. He attended rural schools at Silver Creek and Tower Hill before graduating from Coggon High School in 1941. On September 7, 1942, Dean joined the United States Army Air Corp. serving in the European Theatre during World War II. On August 11, 1943, Dean married Patricia A. LeClere at his parent?s home while on military furlough. Upon Dean?s discharge on December 7, 1945, the couple returned to Iowa and farmed near Winthrop before moving to the Wenger home farm in 1947. In 1970, the couple began trucking for MidWest/CRST and later for International Transport Co., retiring in 1995.

Dean was a member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church where he held various positions. He also belonged to the Silver Creek Grange. Dean enjoyed his family and caring for them. He will be remembered as one with an inventive mind and patriotic spirit.

Dean is survived by his wife, Patricia Wenger of Masonville; five children, Kathryn (David) McClain of Las Vegas, NV, Harriet Wenger of Hiawatha, Terry Wenger of Masonville, Sandy (Jerry) Stiles of Las Vegas, NV, and Wendy (Ron) Light of Warsaw, MO; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Wenger of Manchester.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Ethel Wenger; and a brother, Richard Wenger.
