Dean B. Miller, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died early Thursday morning, October 2, 2003, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, Iowa following a sudden illness.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Manchester, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Dean was born in rural North English, Iowa, on December 26, 1913, the son of Jesse and Gertrude (Smith) Miller. Dean graduated from Grant High School and attended Coe College, both in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the Peoples Unitarian Church, the Elks Club, past-president of the Toastmaster?s Club and the Tuesday Noon Optimist Club all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was also Lt. Governor of Optimist International.
Dean was owner of the D. B. Miller Company, Inc., which operated leased shoe departments in Cedar Rapids. Dean was united in marriage September 9, 1972, to Virginia Fosnacht at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Dean and Virginia moved to Manchester in 1973, where they owned and operated Becker?s Shoe Store. In 1987 they moved to Arkansas before returning to Manchester in 1994. The couple became residents of the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, Iowa in 2000.
Dean is survived by two sons, Gary Dean Miller and his wife, Marcy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jon Randall Miller, of New York, New York; two daughters, Sharlene Bray and her husband, Fred, of Seminole, Florida, and Deanne Miller of Pinole, California; two step-daughters, Marilyn Francois and her husband, Bill, of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Kathy Fosnacht of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Heefner, of Hindsville, Arkansas; and a brother and his wife, Berle & Ruth Miller of Bellingham, Washington.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Virginia Miller.
