Dean R. Baumann, 75, of rural Central City, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, in his home after a courageous battle with lung and brain cancer. The family will greet friends from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2007, at United Church of Christ in Central City, by the Rev. Jonna Jensen. Burial: Prairieburg Boulder Cemetery, which overlooks the family farm.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; four daughters, Ranae (Neil) Frana of Central City, Myra (Butch) Frana of Marion, Jacqueline (Mark) Robertson of Anamosa and Amy Kurtenbach of Zwingle, Iowa; a sister, Arlene Carson of Marion; eight grandchildren, Dana (Eric) Schmidt, Cody Frana (fianc?e Audry Swenconus), Erik Frana, Reid Frana, Ian Frana, Matthew Robertson, Marcus Robertson and Aaron Kurtenbach; and two great-grandchildren, Kyerra Schmidt and Gabryla Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Velma Rosendahl, Marvel Schmidt and Joan Jossie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Alpha Baumann; a sister, Lucille Nietert; five brothers-in-law, Roy Nietert, Erwin Schmidt, Richard Rosendahl, Stan Jossie and George Hodge; and a sister-in-law, Holly Hodge.
Dean was born April 20, 1931, the son of Delbert J. and Alpha (Seitz) Baumann on a farm in rural Linn County. He attended South Boulder country school, Prairieburg School and graduated from Central City High School in 1948. Dean served his country in Korea with the U.S. Marine Corps from September 20, 1951 to September 21, 1953. When Dean returned from service, he farmed with his father and mother. On July 6, 1956, he married Doris M. Rosendahl. They farmed with his parents until his father?s death. Dean gladly filled his life caring for his family, the land, his cattle and hogs. He was still farming until his cancer over-powered him. He died at home cared for by his loving wife of fifty years and four daughters.
In his memory, a memorial fund has been established.
