Dawn Hepker, 85, of Marion, and a long time resident of Linn County, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, after a brief illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Julie Anderson-Schuett. The family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.

Dawn is survived by her daughters, Sherryl Brink (Doug) Hahl of Camdenton, MO, and Melody (Robert) Allen of Troup, TX; son, Leighton (Cindy) Hepker of Maquoketa, IA; granddaughter, Stephanie (Jimmy) Stanton of Tyler, TX; grandsons, Justin Hepker of Columbus, OH, and Adam (Amy) Hepker of Olathe, KS; and great-granddaughter, Abbey Stanton of Tyler, TX.

Dawn was born the daughter of Bernard and Nellie (Outland) Mills, January 11, 1924, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She graduated from Portage High School in 1942. She married Donald Brink November, 1944. He passed away July, 1945. Dawn married Oliver J. Hepker on August 23, 1947 in Nashua, Iowa. He passed away in November 1991. They farmed for many years in the Toddville and Springville areas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Cornerstones, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Springville for over 68 years, serving in various capacities of that organization. She was active in the Marion Women’s Club, and performed many community services in her retirement years. Dawn enjoyed her Study Club (eating out), reading, and baking cookies.

Memorials may be directed to the music department of First Presbyterian Church in Marion in Dawn’s memory.
