David Donnell Zier

David Donnell Zier, 74, of 3141 Hindman Road, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, in his home, surrounded by his family, following a long illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. E. Dwayne Madsen. Burial: Springville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Sue; a son David John (Denise) Zier, Sr.; two daughters, Tracy Marie (Brad) Van Fossen of Anamosa and Terri Lynn (Jeremy) O?Brien of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Evelyn (Fred) White of Florida and Jeanette (Robert) LeClere of Solon.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Kathleen Lynn Zier, Elizabeth Anne Zier, David John Zier, Jr., Daniel Dale Van Fossen, Cory Robert Van Fossen, Alexander Cole Van Fossen, Emily Ann O?Brien and Gage Allen O?Brien. David was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cleo Michaels; three brothers, John "Bud? Zier, William Zier and Robert Zier.
David was born the son of John and Ethel (Hayes) Zier on December 13, 1930, in Cedar Rapids. On March 3, 1972, in Marion, he was married to Sue Ann Fowler. He graduated from Marion High School in 1949. David was a meat cutter for Farm Market in Marion, was employed as a USDA Federal Meat Inspector at Wilson?s and owned D & S Locker in Prairieburg, retiring in 1996. In later years he worked for Lewis Systems as a security officer. David was a member of Trojan Masonic Lodge #548 A.F & A.M. of Marion.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a good friend to many. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in David?s memory.
