David Ward Wilkinson
July 6, 1926 — January 13, 2009
David (Slim) W. Wilkinson, 82, of 1800 Radio Rd. in Marion, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, with his family by his side. The family will greet friends from 3-7 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family burial will be at a later date at Jordan’s Grove Cemetery.
David was born July 6, 1926, to Lewis Hall and Emma Minor Wilkinson. He lived on a farm outside Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1944. He farmed and worked for Hennessey Brothers for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy) of Marion; daughters, Sue Wilkinson of Cedar Rapids, Carol (John) Callahan of Bernard, and Karen (Rich) Mayzel of Upton, Massachusetts; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Millie Wilkinson and Evelyn Wilkinson; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lewis and Wayne; and sisters, Margaret and Lorna (Pat).
David loved his family and their get-togethers. He also loved wildlife, especially watching the deer, turkey and eagles, and gardening.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established and may be mailed to Margaret Wilkinson, 1800 Radio Rd., Marion, IA 52302.
