David V. Silver, 55, a resident of Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion, formerly of Central City, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the nursing home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City by Rev. Jonna Jensen. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Survivors include two children, Kathy (Rod) Jones of Center Point and Dave (Carol) Silver of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Adam Silver and Megan Silver; his mother, Berdena Smith of Central City; six brothers, Jim (Judy), Edwin (Donna), Larry (DeeDee), Vern (Connie), Gerald (Anita) and Don (Ronette), all of Central City; and twenty-two nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two children, Jeffrey and Sandra Silver; his father, James; a brother, Harold "Hurk? Silver; and a stepfather, Aubrey Smith.

Dave was born March 28, 1948, the son of James and Berdena (Wood) Silver in Central City. He worked for McCartney?s Furniture Store, Century Engineering, Apache Hose, Fauconniere Manufacturing Co. and Laborers Local #43 as a brick tender/laborer. Dave?s hobbies included mushroom hunting, gardening, wood cutting, playing pool and cards and parties with friends. He also enjoyed picking berries, watching fireworks, feeding the squirrels and watching nature. Dave will long be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of children, and the care he took of his family.
