David Mike Schmitt, 57, of 1008 38th St SE, died Thursday, September 4, 2003, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, of a sudden illness. A celebration of life will be held on next Saturday, September 13, 2003, 1:30 p.m., at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his son, Chris of Cedar Rapids, his grandchildren, Sean, Katie and Dylan; his sisters, Joyce (Norman) Queen, of Soldier, Iowa, and Trudee (Arthur Lynn) Svaldi, of Manchester, Iowa; 2 aunts; 8 nieces and nephews; and 10 grandnieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kennetha Kaye and his grandparents.
Mike was born January 12, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Kenneth Ralph and Opal Jewell Umphenour Schmitt. He married Susan Roff on April, 19, 1969, in Cedar Rapids and later divorced. Mike worked for Square D for 35 years and was a member of Machinist Union, Local 831. He loved his son, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mike will be greatly missed.
