David Kenneth Pearson, 72, of Marion, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at Linn Manor Care Center. Celebration of Life Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion by Rev. John Moss. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private Family Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruthie; two sons, Christopher (Cynthia) Pearson and their daughter, Evelyn of Dayton, Ohio and Al (Britt) V-Pearson and their sons, Owen and Anders of Boulder, Colorado; a brother, Robert (Judy) Pearson of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jo (Gary) Hunerdosse of Cedar Rapids; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Paula Pearson.

Dave was born February 7, 1943, the son of Kenneth and Marie (Koch) Pearson in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Alburnett High School in 1961, Iowa State University in 1965, and USC in 1971. He married Ruth Anne Hann at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Marion. Dave served with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, continuing to serve his country honorably for over 20 years until his discharge in 1986.

He was a member of The QB’s, Masonic Lodge #6 AF & AM of Marion and numerous aviation organizations.

Dave’s family and friends have always been paramount in his life, and the support that they have given him throughout his life and during his illness will never be forgotten. Dave’s lifelong love of flying shaped his life and inspired many wonderful and lasting friendships.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of Linn Manor Care Center and Unity Point Hospice for their loving care of Dave.

No flowers please. Memorials should be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice, in Dave’s memory. Suggested charities are: Salvation Army, Veteran’s Honor Flights program, and American Cancer Society.
