David Morningstar, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died at home, Friday, October 2, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Gathering: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private family services will be held at time of inurnment. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum.
David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Terri; son, Greg (Julie); daughter, Brenda Morningstar-Shaw (Doug); six grandgirlies, Grace and Mary Morningstar, Noelle Natalie and Nicole Flugrad, and Stella Shaw; two sisters, Connie Morningstar (Victor Alexander) of Cedar Rapids and Donna Ritchey (Tom) of New London; and brother, Richard Morningstar (Judith) of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
David was born August 14, 1945, the son of Gilbert and Evelyn (Candler) Morningstar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He proudly served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
On December 16, 1966, David was united in marriage to Terri McGaha. After farming south of Cedar Rapids for a number of years, Dave went to work for ADM Corn Sweetners in 1974. He was also a Realtor for 26 years, most recently with Skogman Realty. His greatest joys were spending time with family, friends and fishing in Missouri. David was a member of the Cedar Christian Church and the AMVETS Post 6. He was honored to have been named Metro Veteran of The Year in 2006.
