David L. Mackey, 75, of Center Point, Iowa, died Sunday, November 27, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Sister Mary Hargrafen.
Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica; sons, Tom (Lisa) Mackey of Tipton, Tim (Lori) Mackey of Piedmont, Oklahoma and Doug (Sue) Mackey of Center Point; daughter Julie (Jim) Pfeiffer of Walker; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Bee (Bill) Leidich of Ely; and his dog Maggie.
David was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Kinzey, Pauline Becicka and Phyllis Mackey; and brother, Robert Mackey.
Born June 25, 1936, in Ely, Iowa, David was the youngest child of Thomas and Rose (Mrstik) Mackey. On December 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Veronica Milbach. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. David was a farmer and a retired machinist from Rockwell Collins. He earned his Associates Degree in agriculture at Kirkwood Community College
David enjoyed farming, racing the drag race truck he built, breeding and judging Blue Tick coonhounds and spending time with his family. He was an avid Hawkeye, Cubs, Bears and CPU fan. He volunteered for 25 years as the head statistician for Center Point football.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
