David Lee Luense, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A private family burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion, Iowa, at a later date.
David was born on May 25, 1947, in Oakland, California, the son of C.W. “Whip” and Emily Luense. He was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting at The University of Iowa. David owned and operated Leonardo’s Pizza, which was later named Luenzi’s from 1974 to 1994. During his retirement years he enjoyed being a shuttle driver for Junge Ford. David was a proud business owner, avid sports fan, and enjoyed hunting. He was an excellent storyteller and liked to share life experiences with others. David was a very proud Papa; he loved his daughter and granddaughter more than anything. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Stacy (Mike) Tharp of Marion; granddaughter, Rylee Tharp of Marion; brother, Joe (Kathy) Luense of Cedar Rapids; and two nieces, Lori (Lou) Prats of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lisa (Chris) Edwards of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
