David J. Kayser, 87, of Center Point, Iowa, formerly of Walker, Iowa, died Monday, July 1, 2024. A visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary to begin at 4 p.m. Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. Inurnment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Walker.
David was born on April 24, 1937, in Independence, Iowa, to Harold and Lucille (Alberts) Kayser. He graduated from Walker High School in 1955. Following graduation, David hauled fuel for Skelly Oil before serving in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. On September 28, 1960, he married Bonny Lea Rizer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. The couple enjoyed traveling together on bus trips and cruises. After his military service, David embarked on a career with Rockwell Collins, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed painting and lettering for automotive and signage projects in his spare time.
David was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus Lodge Council 12131. He was also a proud charter member of the Walker Lions Club, contributing to the organization for 65 years. David was a volunteer firefighter for the Walker Fire Department. He enjoyed Men’s Coffee Clutch and playing cards at the fire station. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, watching westerns, and playing drums in local country western bands.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bonny Kayser; sons, Doug Kayser (Tina Sherman) of Robins, Iowa, Tim Kayser, and Scott (Roberta) Kayser, all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille Kayser; brother, James Kayser; and sister, Kathleen Brummer.
