Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth May of Cedar Rapids; mother, Mary May of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Edward (Gloria) May of Guttenburg, Colette Vincent of Cedar Rapids, Celeste (Brian) Williams of Marion, and Christopher (Terri) May of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are four aunts, Marg Byrne, Kathy Engle, Dorothy Moore and Margie Ann Moore; numerous cousins; 11 nieces and nephews; and friend, Bill W.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and former wife, Jamie.
Dave was born on June 12, 1961, the youngest of five children born to Kenneth and Mary May. He graduated from Regis High School in 1979, Kirkwood Community College in 1981 and was employed by the Cedar Rapids School District. Dave married Jamie Hutton in 1989. Together they had a daughter, Elizabeth, who was their greatest joy. Dave and Jamie later divorced, but their continued love for each other, and Elizabeth, was undeniable.
Dave was an avid collector of military items and enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales and pawn shops. He was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor. Any material possession that Dave had only had value to him when he could give it away to a friend. He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Dave’s friends who took him to auctions, played poker/chess with him, called him or just stopped in to say “hi” to him over the last few years as his health declined.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Dave.
