David Roy Hannen, 29, of Cedar Rapids, died in a motorcycle accident, Tuesday afternoon, June 24, 2014 in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. by Father Dennis Cahill at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Central City. The family will greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m., at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City. Burial will be at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
David is the son of Steve and Rosie Hannen of Central City; brother of Dr. Allison O’Grady and her husband, Dr. John O’Grady; and loving father of Keira Jolynn Hannen (age 5). He is survived by his grandmother, Clara Guynn; aunts and uncles, Jean and Bob Ohlen, Julie and Jim Foltz, Mary and Lee Roudybush, Trudie and Cliff Pearcy, Bill and Lori Hannen, Jim and Judy Hannen, and Rick and Sharon Hannen; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Roy Guynn; paternal grandparents, Warren and Marie Hannen; and an aunt, Jane Guynn.
David Roy Hannen was born September 15, 1984, in Cedar Rapids. David was a good father to his beautiful daughter, and she was the light and love of his life. He was an excellent farmer on the family farm and handled technical equipment issues extremely well. He also did civil engineering technician work. David loved sports, the NBA, playing basketball, and his motorcycle. Ten days before the accident he was a groomsman in his sister’s wedding. He went to God too early, and he will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Central City, in his memory.
