David Ross Gray Sr., 72, formerly of Center Point, IA, passed away in Sioux City, IA on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 after a short illness. Funeral services: 1:00 pm Monday, March 2, 2009, at First Assembly of God Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids from 2-6 pm with the family present from 2 pm to 4 pm. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Dave was born in Osakis, MN on June 5, 1936, to Bernard and Louise Gray. He graduated from Osakis High School in 1956, going on to Wessington Springs College. Dave married and fathered four children: Deborah, Dave, Dan and Johnny, early in his life.
In 1967, Dave met and married Dixie Valeu. Together they brought two children, Mason and Dawn, into the world. He was a “jack of all trades” and worked with several different companies throughout his life. In the latter part of his life, he worked with Atlas Van Lines.
Dave felt strongly about the importance of blood donations and donated blood and platelets at the Mississippi Blood Center on a regular basis. He recently received an award for achieving the 40 gallon mark for his contributions.
A longtime member of First Assembly of God, Dave often enjoyed playing dominos with his friends in the Senior Saints. He also taught children’s Sunday School for many years and looked forward to seeing the smallest of his friends every Sunday morning.
His greatest pride was his grandchildren, Taylor and Jonathan Gray (Mason and Michelle) and Talia Brooks (Dawn and Mike). Dave would tell anyone who would listen about their latest endeavors and always carried pictures of them to show everyone.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother; father; and beloved wife, Dixie.
He is survived by his children Deborah of Brunswick ,GA; Dave of Cedar Rapids ; Dan (Beth) of Iowa City; John of Cedar Rapids; Mason (Michelle) of Sioux City; and Dawn (Mike) of Elburn, IL; five brothers-Robert, Louis, Gerald (Diane ) of Osakis, MN, Harry (Cine) of Scottsdale, AZ and Samuel(Bridget )of Alexandria, MN. Dave will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
