David Lewis Fitch, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, by Pastor Linda Livingston. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the funeral home in Marion, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Midway.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia; children, Jeffrey (Tonya) Fitch of Marion, Tonya (Bryan) Lucke of Cedar Rapids, Christopher (Stephanie) Fitch of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson, on the way; and his El Camino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved dog, Daisy.
David was born August 15, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mildred (Simmons) Fitch. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1960, and went on to attend Indian Hills Technical School and Iowa State University. David worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, retiring after more than 40 years. He married Cynthia J. Nelson on February 14, 1982, in Fairfield, Iowa.
David was a kind and giving person, he would drop everything to help his family and friends. He loved to play the lotto and often bought scratch tickets, and was an avid visitor to Donutland. David prized his car, enjoyed the car show circuit, and was a member of many car clubs; he participated in a car cruise every Thursday.
