David J. DeGroote, 63, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, September 6, 2004, at home. Private Family Graveside Services were held at Linwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; his children, David DeGroote and wife Sonja of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Debra DeGroote, Daniel DeGroote and Denise Rodgers and husband Eric, all of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Tara Marie DeGroote, Brandon DeGroote and Alexander DeGroote; a sister, Patricia Vik and husband David of Cedar Rapids; two nephews, Mike and Terry Vik and their families; his mother-in-law, Milvina Freymuller of Tampa, Florida; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Max Freymuller and a niece, Kathy Triplett.
David was born April 3, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Frank and Elsie (O?Connor) DeGroote. On November 10, 1962, he married Nancy Glick in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Wilson/Farmstead for 27 years as an engineer. David served in the U.S. Navy and was honored to be a Golden Shellback. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
