David Joe Cole, 47, of 426 39th Street, NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died March 31, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, by Father Dustin Vu of St. Pius X. The family will greet friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Patti; two sons, Jeremy (Chrisy) of Cedar Rapids, Casey (Emily) of Urbana, Iowa; two daughters, Danielle (Tony) of Aurora, Illinois and Michaela of Marion; his parents, Delight and Richard Hotz of Troy Mills, Iowa; one brother, Michael Hotz (Laura) of Brandon, Iowa; one sister, Karla Anderson of Marion; maternal grandmother, Delight Peal of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandmother, Leota Cole of Cedar Rapids; and six grandchildren, Jason, Mariah, Alivia, James, Nathaniel and Lindsay.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Quint of Ryan, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Diane (Mike) McElliott of Ryan and Sharon (John) Strange of Urbandale, Iowa; five brothers-in-law, James Quint, Steve (Ingrid) Quint, both of Ryan, Jerry (Jenny) Quint, Kenny (Lisa) Quint, both of Manchester, Iowa, and Carl (Emilie) Quint of Ryan; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Lynn; paternal grandfather, Ulys Cole; his maternal grandfather, Connie Peal; and his father-in-law, Sylvester Quint.

Dave was born November 24, 1957, the son of Delight and Guy Joseph Cole, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dave and his wife Patti were married 28 years. He loved stock car racing, mud running with his friends, playing pool, watching westerns, swimming and motorcycle riding. He served in the United States Marine Corp. For the last 15 years, Dave owned and operated Dave?s Floor Care. He traveled throughout the state of Iowa doing floors for the new Dollar General Stores. For 10 years, he also owned his own snow removal and janitorial service.

The family would like to especially thank the special people in our life, Heidi and Tony Shaw, Nancy Wheeler and Billy Lee for being there through thick and thin.

A special thanks to Iowa Blood & Cancer Care, especially Dr. Chirantan Ghosh and St. Luke?s Hospital 5th Floor Nursing Staff for their care during Dave?s battle with cancer.
