David A. Langhurst, 77, of Springville, died Friday, May 31, 2013, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: Tuesday, June 4, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Springville Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals. Burial: Springville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Judith of Springville; four children, Kathy Langhurst-Nji of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Terry Polaski) Langhurst of Swisher, Mike (Sarah) Langhurst of Cedar Rapids, and David W. (Vildana Tinjic) Langhurst of Cedar Rapids; his mother-in-law, Florence Miska; his brother-in-law, Dr. Glen (Hanne) Miska; a brother, Perry Langhurst of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Akwi, Afor, Tom, Melissa, Mikayla, and Luke; and five great-grandchildren, Ayla, Amaya, Owen, Emmett, and Cora.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Iva; a daughter, Susan Harries and son-in-law, Galen Harries; two brothers, Daniel and Edward, Jr.; father-in-law, Wesley Miska; and a sister-in-law, Mary Miska-Larson.
David was born December 16, 1935, the son of Edward Sr. and Iva Mae (Perry) Langhurst in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1954. On November 6, 1955, he married Judith A. Miska. He served in the Air National Guard from 1955-1958. David worked as an electronics technician at Cyrovac for 18 years. He was a cattle and grain farmer for 40 years. In 1989, he started a hydraulic repair business from the farm and retired in 2008.
David was a good Christian man. He enjoyed playing basketball and had many other passions he shared with his family. David’s interests also included chemistry, electronics, gardening, hot rodding cars, old movies, chess, antiquing, and his pets, Sylvester, Dolly, and Minnie.
