Daryl John Wurster, 80, a longtime resident of Springville, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a short illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Springville United Methodist Church by Rev. John Keizer with military honors. Per Daryl’s wishes, his body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines for the advancement of medical science. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Ruth; six children, Abby Wiertzema of Phoenix, New York, Terry (Nancy) Wurster of Springville, Don Wurster of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Cindi) Wurster of Springville, Amy (Mark) Hansen of Oxford, and Susan Wurster of Springville; ten grandchildren, Chad, Sara, Lisa, Kevin, Kara, Matt, Ben, Jill, Jonathan and Brycen; and six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Lillian, Caleb, Tyler, Dominic and Caden.

Also surviving are a brother, Harry (Mary Lou) Wurster of Ames; three sisters-in-law, Betty Wurster of Springville, Esther Williams of Oregon, and Rachel Dubé of Nevada; his step-mother, Peggy Ladue of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Daryl was born May 23, 1927, the son of Louis and Mildred (Daker) Wurster in Houghton, South Dakota. He graduated from Independence High School in 1945. Daryl served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Chitose, Japan during WWII. On February 25, 1951, he married Ruth E. Wood in Springville.

Daryl was a lifelong farmer and collector of John Deere memorabilia. Memberships and things that were important to Daryl included: Springville United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 331 of Springville, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, reading, and enjoying breakfast and mall walking with his many friends, most of whom were fellow Rockwell retirees. Daryl was a family man who believed family always came first. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all of Daryl’s caregivers at St. Luke’s Hospital for the gracious care he received.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Daryl’s memory.
